It looks like Nalgene has an unlined stainless steel container and you can get it through Amazon. I believe that all their products are made in the USA.

I just recently bought one from the health food store thinking they were safer than those plastic ethos water bottles they sell at starbucks. however, after reading all this informative information i find that siggs, so called swiss company, seems to be hiding a lot facts on whether or not their epoxy lining contains BPA. I think i’ll switch over to Klean Kanteens, since they seem to be honest about their products. Thanks for shaing all these interesting comments people!

Dear Genius,

Sigg bottles are not all made in China, according to the information the company releases, and personal communication I have had with company representatives. (See comments above.) Products made in China may indeed be perfectly fine (although that is certainly not always the case, if you look at recent recall lists); people have a range of reasons for looking at alternatives to China made goods, not all of which are safety/quality concerns.To the best of my knowledge Sigg are not an American company, but a Swiss one. It may or may not interest you to know that I am not an American, nor do I live in the US, and I certainly do not spend my life worrying that US companies are trying to ’screw me over’. I do not think that this makes me naive.

Reading the link you left it seems that a fairer summary would be that Sigg aluminium bottles may contain BPA in their inner layer (there didn’t seem to be anyone writing with evidence that this was the case), and that concerns have been raised about the possible health implications of possible leaching of BPA from the inner layer. I would have to read much more than what was cited by this link to come to the conclusion that you draw. I have approved your comment however, so that other readers can inform themselves and draw their own conclusions.

Sigg bottles are NOT SAFE. They have BPA in the INNER LINER.

Sigg Products ARE ALL MADE IN CHINA. Products made in China are perfectly fine since they’re made to COMPANY specifications. If you have a problem w/ a product, it’s the FAULT of the AMERICAN COMPANY. Are you all really so naive that you think American Companies aren’t trying to screw you over?

Not only are Sigg’s stainless bottles made in China, but they are pretty sneaky about labeling them. The “Made in China” was only found after much searching . . . it was printed on the bottom of the plastic box they come in, in almost the same grey color as the box . . . Grrrrr . . . and to top it all off, the screw top is “Swiss Made” (and labeled) so if you miss the hidden printing on the box, you’ll only have that to go by and it’ll seem like you have a 100% Swiss stainless bottle . . . devious!

Well, I got a reply from a Product Manager at Sigg today, Christian Roth. He says that all the aluminium bottles (like those featured above) are made in Switzerland. The stainless steel product, like Thermos flasks, (as John suggested) are made in ‘the Far East’. Which I take to mean China. So I guess we were both right.

I’m pretty sure the one I bought said ‘Swiss made’; I agree with you about the whole ‘weasel words’ things : in Australia so many clothes have in big letters on the label ‘Designed in AUSTRALIA’, and somewhere else, probably in the hardest to find inner seam, another tiny label ‘made in China’. I will try and find a definitive answer. Thanks for your interest.

I read that someone contacted Sigg and all their stainless steel bottles are made in China. so, not that I wouldn’t buy them, but “Swiss-engineered” seems deceptive making them sound like they’re made in Switzerland… as long as companies are totally honest, I don’t find fault w/ them, but don’t really like that type of advertising (would be like saying all the U.S. toys that are made in China are “American-engineered” without putting a made in China label on them (the word engineered just meaning “designed” in the U.S. or Switzerland I assume. Hmmm….
